The three cent silver piece was a transitional silver coin, very small in diameter that only saw a short usage due to low popularity. Many that survive were made into jewelry or kept as keepsakes. They were replaced with a nickel 3 cent coin later, and eventually the 3 cent piece was removed entirely.
